CNCC men’s rodeo gets off to fast start as team, individuals

RANGELY I CNCC rodeo coach Jed Moore reported Monday that the CNCC rodeo team just returned home from the first of six spring rodeos and that he was very happy with the results.

“We had a great one,” he said. “Every member of the CNCC men’s team qualified for the Short Round, a perfect 10 for 10. The points earned this weekend set us in second place for the weekend behind annual powerhouse College of Southern Idaho.
“The CNCC men’s team is continuing to hold strong in the No. 2 spot in the region and we are looking for a No. 2 team berth into the College National Finals Rodeo this June in Casper, Wyo.,” he said.
The women’s events, argued by many to be even more competitive than the men’s, had several CNCC ladies representing well.
The women were led by Karlee Worthen’s win in the Long Go of breakaway roping with a 2.7 second run and a fourth-place finish in the team roping long round with heeler Justin White.
Josie and Teasha Moody continued to be strong competitors in the goat tying, and dual sport (basketball) athlete Jacey Schlegel traveled straight from the regional basketball tournament to the rodeo and placed in the top 10 in the breakaway roping in her first rodeo back.
Other individual results: Tyler Stueve, bull riding, second in the long go, first in the short go, tie for 1/2 in the average; Colby Demo, bull riding, third in the short go; Colton Onyett, bareback riding, sixth in the long go, first in the short go, tie 2-3 in the average; Dax Koskie, bareback riding, fourth in the long go, fourth in the short go, sixth in the average; Brody Adams, Tie Down Roping, second in the first go, third in the average; Caide Roberts, team roping, sixth in the short round, sixth in the average; Nick Chew, saddle bronc, fourth in the short round; Justin White, team roping, fourth in the long go; Karlee Worthen, team roping fourth in the long go, breakaway roping first in the long go; Jacey Schlegel, 10th in long go; Josie Moody seventh in long go; and Teasha Moody, 10th in long go.
This weekend, the CNCC Spartans will head to Twin Falls, Idaho, for the 39th annual CSI College Rodeo.
