CNCC rodeo team ends regular season; four advance to CNFR

RANGELY I The Colorado Northwestern Community College rodeo team wrapped up its 10-rodeo season on April 18-19 in Grand Junction at the Colorado Mesa University’s Maverick Stampede, and several Spartans had great rodeo performances.

Team roper and tie down roper Brody Adams finished third for the weekend in both events. Team roping duo Justin White and Karlee Worthen roped a seccond-place finish on the weekend, their best finish of the year.
Teasha Moody had another solid weekend barrel racing, placing second in the first round and fourth overall. Moody was also a short-go qualifier in the goat tying, finishing fifth.
Bull rider Tyler Stueve won the first round. Bareback Riders Colton Onyett and Dax Koskie finished in second and fourth places, respectively, with Onyett putting up the highest marked ride of the weekend in the short round.
“I couldn’t be more excited and proud to announce that Paige Yore, my right hand and partner in crime, was voted on by her peers as the 2014-15 Rocky Mountain Region Coach of The Year,” CNCC rodeo coach Jed Moore said. “She has earned it through her hard work and dedication to her position, and every student in this region.”
Unfortunately, the CNCC men’s team was unable to fend off a hard-charging Utah State University team for the No. 2 regional spot. Despite not finishing in the top two, CNCC’s rodeo team will account for four qualifications to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) this year.
“The CNCC ladies moved further up the standings than any year before, ending the year in fourth place,” Moore said. “We had several young ladies come close in several events but will not be sending a Spartan cowgirl to (the CNFR) in Casper, Wyo., this year.
The College National Finals Rodeo will take place June 14-20 in Casper, where the top contestants from 11 regions in the nation will compete for national titles. For more, see www.cnfr.com.”
