Meeker artist John Kobald designed this poster for the inaugural Meeker Classic Cattledog Trial coming up on Sunday, June 7. Kobald has donated the original pastel artwork to the Meeker Classic Cattledog Trial and asked that it be given to one of the event sponsors. MEEKER I Long known for their sense of community, the residents of Meeker and Rio Blanco County have again stepped up to the plate. Many have come together to make the inaugural Meeker Classic Cattledog Trial representative of the cooperative spirit and heritage that surrounds this community.

Meeker-area artist John Kobald recently completed a piece to be used as the first poster for the first Meeker Cattledog Trial, which will be held Sunday, June 7.
A deep sense of community and the desire to see something get off to a good start was the motivation for Kobald to create this finely rendered pastel.
“Steer Clear” speaks of the dynamics during a cattledog trial as the dog works to maneuver cattle through a series of obstacles. Kobald’s intimate relationship with the natural world is evident in this piece as he captures the moment the dog engages the steer and dares him to go forward.
Kobald is known for his endeavors supporting the community and has served as juror for the Meeker Classic Art Contest several times in addition to capturing the winning place as poster artist for the Meeker Classic International Art Contest in 2001 and 2003.
Kobald donated the artwork to the Meeker Classic Cattledog Trial and has asked that it be given to one of the event sponsors. A drawing for the winner will be held during the trial on June 7.
Matching Kobald’s generosity is the support given by businesses, cattlemen and the Rio Blanco Stockgrowers Association. Donations made for the event will help bring people, commerce and the competitors to Meeker.
The poster will be available for sale locally at Wendll’s, at the Cattledog Trial on June 7 or by contacting the Meeker Classic.
