Annual fish fry at historic Buford School draws hungry crowd

A few clouds and breezes didn’t hurt the attendance at the annual White River Fish Fry on Saturday in Buford. The annual event fed roughly 200 people, organizers said, with all the fish they could eat, desserts, salads, tea, lemonade, cookies, cakes and pies.

Rio Blanco County Sheriff Anthony Mazzola just left the dinner line at Saturday evening’s annual White River Fish Fry at the Buford School, upriver on County Road 17. Roughly 200 people took part in the fish fry sponsored by the White River Community Association to raise money for upkeep and restoration of the school.

The seats at the Buford School Fish Fry kept rotating with new people coming to eat. The inside kept filling and emptying, above, while people kept coming and going and filling the seats inside and outside. The sponsoring White River Community Association reported that close to 200 people took part in the white fish, side dishes and salads between 4-6 p.m. on Saturday.

With rain in Meeker and a slight delay with dedication and the cornerstone being laid at the new Pioneers Medical Center, the White River Fish Fry in Buford was a little bit slow in starting at 4 p.m. and running through 6 p.m. Roughly 200 people took part in the fish fry, which is a fundraiser to raise funds for the restoration and upkeep at the Buford School on County Road 17.
