Bette Matthias Allcorn Carnahan died after a long illness on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at her home in Meeker, accompanied by family members.
Bette was born Aug. 23, 1928, to Leonard and Lena Matthias Allcorn in Norwark, Conn. She was graduated from Staples High School and attended Westbook Jr. College in Portland, Maine, with a degree in dietetics. She was a housewife and a full-time mom, and she worked for Pioneers Medical Center in the kitchen.
Bette was a lifetime member of the Meeker VFW Auxiliary No. 5843 and the Cooties, a division of the VFW. She enjoyed bowling, going to numerous local, state and national tournaments.
Bette was a Cub Scout and Brownie Scout and led and helped establish the youth bowling leagues. She also assisted with the 4-H programs and was superintendent of the Hobby Booth for the county fair.
Bette married Herbert A. (Lon) Carnahan on Jan. 15, 1955, in Fort Collins, Colo.
Preceding her in death were: her husband, Lon, and their youngest daughter, Chris.
She is survived by: daughter Janice (Alan) and grandson Gregory all of Palisade; granddaughter Meghan of Janeyville, Wis.; son David of Meeker; grandson Clay of Grand Junction; sister Hope Kaofeldt of Santa Margarita, Calif; sister Carolyn Bogan of Fallon, Nev.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration luncheon will be held Saturday, July 18, 2015, at the Rio Blanco County Fairgrounds, hosted by the Meeker VFW Auxiliary No. 5843. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Meeker VFW Auxiliary No. 5843 scholarship fund or the Meeker HopeWest.
