RHS volleyball team has good weekend, captures two of three

RANGELY I The Rangely High School girls’ volleyball team had a great weekend as the varsity girls won two of their three matches.
The Panthers began on the road to Vail, where they played Vail Mountain in a non-league matchup.

The C-Team came up short but the junior varsity won handily in two games, creating the momentum for the varsity to win in three games.
Coach Jimmie Mergelman said, “As a whole, I think we responded to our loss the week before really well and set the tone for this weekend.”
Rangely won the first game 25-18, the second 25-16 and finished with a 25-21 victory to sweep in three straight.
Justyne Dembowski led the way for the Panthers as she had 30 serves and only one error. The team served 95 percent, with Lindzey Thacker adding 13serves and Antoinette Dorris serving 11 with no errors.
Katelyn Brown led the team in kills with eight, followed by Sarah Connor with seven.
The offense was the result of 54 assists from Antoinette Dorris who does an incredible job of getting to the second ball and making plays happen.
On Friday night, the Panthers played Meeker and absolutely dominated the match.
Mergelman said, “This match was the best I have seen our girls play. Sarah Conner and Katye Allred dominated at the net and controlled the game.”
The first game was 25-17 behind a team serving percentage of 97 with Carrie Goddard serving 29 times, and the team only made two errors in the entire match.
The offensive attack was led by Sarah Connor with 12 kills followed by Katelyn Brown with 10 and Lindzey Thacker and Katye Allred each with six.
Doris was once again the quarterback of the offense, delivering 78 assists in the match. The defense made the offense as Sarah Connor and Lindzey Thacker each had nine blocks, Katye Allred had seven and Katelyn Brown added six.
Carrie Goddard led the team in digs with nine and Justyne Dembowski had six.
Rangely won game two 25-19, and the last game was 25-11.
The Panthers fell to Cedaredge on the road on Saturday, but they get a chance to redeem themselves as they play Cedaredge again on Saturday and Plateau Valley on Friday.
