n To the traveler who will have her lunch of milk chocolate, let it be suggested that there be added bread or crackers. Then more good will be derived from the chocolate, which, served alone, is too concentrated a food.
n We are pleased to announce that S.R. Berger, the well known Leadville eye specialist will be here again at the Meeker hotel for three days, Aug. 1, 2 and 3, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. No charge for consultation.

n Meeker is fast filling up and oil activities taking on a new and accelerated pace. Two drilling crews and a big seismograph crew have started moving into our community and it now looks like things will be really busy the rest of the year.
n On KTVT Channel 4: Tic Tac Dough, Groucho Marx, Dragnet, The Price is Right, Mickey Spillane, The Thin Man and Father Knows Best.
n First National Bank of the Rockies started a remodel of its building to add more room.

n Following three weeks of dry weather and high temperatures, the mid-summer dry spell came to an end as daily thunderstorms dumped 1.88 inches of moisture on Meeker and the surrounding area.
n From Dolly Viscardi’s column: “In God We Trust. By the turn of the century He may be the only one we are willing to trust.”
n Moving ahead with their plans to develop a large reservoir in the Little Beaver area, Rio Blanco Properties purchased a little over 300 acres of land from Catherine Lammers.

The Rangely Times — 35 years ago
n Project Rio Blanco — the detonation of three 30-kiloton nuclear explosives more than one mile underground in the Piceance Basin in hopes of releasing trapped natural gas — was termed a “success.”
n Food prices have risen far less than most consumer goods. During the last 20 years, food eaten at home rose by less than 40 percent while prices for all consumer items rose by 58 percent. Our average home food price rose by 40 percent while hourly wages received by laborers when up 140 percent.
n Cost of attending college rose about $100-150 during the past year. The average yearly cost of college ranges from $1,637 for commuter students at junior colleges to $3,279 for residents at private four-year schools.

The Rangely Times — 20 years ago
n It was officially Mark Danielson Day in Rangely on Aug. 1 by means of a special proclamation signed by Mayor Pro-tem Frances Green. Danielson’s plane was shot down just over the Laotian border June 18, 1972, making him one of 41 Vietnam veterans in Colorado declared MIAs.
n The Calico Teapot provided Rangely residents with everything from fashion to frying pans. The Teapot was also home to the Sears catalog store outlet and the Lacey Daze tole painting and folk art store. Owner Tish King.
n At Bestway: Dannon 8 ounce yogurt, two for $1; Blue Bonnet margarine, 1 pound, two for 89 cents.
