Obituary: Bluford Halcomb

Bluford Halcomb
Bluford Halcomb
Bluford Halcomb passed away in his sleep at the Eagle Crest Senior Home in Rangely, Colo., on May 2, 2016.

Bluford will be together again in the afterlife with his beloved wife, Bonnell, who preceded him in death in 2014. Bluford lived a very long life and had many adventures as anyone that he has come in contact with, can tell you.
He has drilled more oil wells than you can imagine and some that might have only been in his vivid imagination.
Bluford was born on June 6, 1927, to James and Cleavie Halcomb in Altus, Okla. He was born the middle child of nine children.
As a young man, he worked in the Oklahoma cotton fields picking cotton and operating combines. At one time, he leased and worked on a farm.
Bluford eventually began working in the Oklahoma oil fields on the rigs. He was a medic in the U.S. Army for three years. He met and married Helen Bonnell Covington in Altus, Okla., on July 5, 1950. Shortly after their marriage, they began their family of seven children.
In 1961, Bluford moved his family to Rangely, Colo., where he was employed by various well service companies including Colorado Well Service.
In 1979, Blu and Frank Hejl started Blu H Well Service. The partnership dissolved after a few years, and Blu was sole owner of Blu H Well Service for 30 years. Three of his sons worked for him at one time or another during those 30 years.
Bluford is survived by: his seven children and their spouses, Brenda and Robin Fairchild, Steve and Kim Halcomb, Debbie and Jim Chaffee, Alvin and Glenda Halcomb, Jerry and Lisa Halcomb, Ronnie and Cindy Halcomb, and Jackie and Terry Huckins; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. at Eagle Crest Senior Home in Rangely, Colo., on Saturday May 7, 2016. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Rangely Animal Shelter Furry Friends.
