Obituary: Alvy Lloyd Tucker

Alvy Lloyd Tucker, 89, passed away at Sunrise Assisted Living of Westminster, Colo., on Friday, June 12.
Tucker was born Dec. 26, 1919, to Alvy Dallas and Magnolia Mae (Burelson) Tucker in El Reno, Okla.
He was raised in and attended Trinidad, Colo., schools. He was with the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked on the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. He married Mary Elizabeth Coberly in 1939 in Raton, N.M. They had three children, Betty Darleen, Alvy Richard and Diana.
Lloyd volunteered for the Army on the third draft in September 1944, during World War II. He trained at Camp Roberts, Calif., and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater: Philippines (Leyte) and Okinawa. He was awarded Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Battle Star. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
After the war, Lloyd and family moved to Craig, where he drove a gas truck and later worked as a mechanic for various auto dealerships. During this time, he built their home in Davis Gardens with the help of his father and father-in-law. In 1955 the family moved to Rangely, where he worked for a new auto dealership. In 1957 he went to work for Chevron Oil Company as a mechanic until his retirement in 1986. While living in Rangely, he was a member of the Masonic Order, Eastern Star, VFW, Elks Lodge, and attended the First Christian Church.
He actively hunted and fished in Craig, Rangely and Meeker areas. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Slush Pit Country Club in Rangely and the Meeker and Rifle golf courses.
After retirement from Chevron Oil they lived in Meeker until Mary’s passing in 2004. He then lived in Rifle and moved to the Denver area in 2008 to be near his daughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters and one granddaughter.
He is survived by daughter Betty Darleen (Jerry) Sturbaum, son Alvy Richard (Mickey) Tucker, daughter Diana (Dennis) Chandler, sister Patricia Smiley of California, 14 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 14 step-great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 23 at the Masonic Cemetery in Trinidad. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 27 at Cochran Memorial Chapel in Meeker.
Donations may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, c/o Cochran Memorial Chapel.
