RANGELY I Colorado Northwestern Community College prepared for new and returning students with 2016 Convocation Week activities on Aug. 16, when all faculty and staff from both campuses gathered in Rangely.
Faculty and staff were given the opportunity to join teams with different roles to help engage students at the New Student Orientation.
The teams were set up with the following descriptions:
“College & Community Info Fair on the Johnson Lawn” introduced students to what the Rangely area has to offer. Booths were set up for a variety of businesses including The Salon, Rangely Recreation Center, Rangely Chamber, CNCC clubs and even the Rangely Museum, to name a few.
“Campus Safety Orientation Session” gave students background on what they can expect while living on the Rangely campus.
“Challenging Yourself to Succeed Orientation Session” allowed students to develop a vision of success and set realistic goals to meet that vision on the Challenge Course.
“Healthy Transition Orientation Session” provided an opportunity for students to learn about healthy life choices as they begin their college career.
“CNCC Go! A Spartan Scavenger Hunt” gave students the opportunity to investigate the CNCC Library and an array of classrooms as they searched for items on the scavenger hunt list.
“Afternoon at the Lake” (Kenney Reservoir) provided for new and current student interaction and introduced the concept of place-based learning as students are familiarized with the outdoor recreation opportunities that are available.
