MEEKER | “The girls did a great job this weekend,” Meeker’s head volleyball coach Janae Stanworth said after her team won matches against Plateau Valley and West Grand last weekend. Meeker (8-3) will now take their show on the road for a match in Hotchkiss Friday, then in Oak Creek the following day. Meeker played in Collbran last Friday, defeating the Plateau Valley Cowboys in four games, losing the first 18-25 but winning the next three 25-6, 25-15 and 25-19 to win the match. “We served well and capitalized on Plateau Valley’s mistakes,” Stanworth said. Sophomore twins Krissie and Kassie Luce led the team with 20 serves each, senior Maggie Phelan had 16, while senior Peyton Burke and sophomore Lila Klinglesmith each had 14. “We had 17-percent ace percentage and we found their weak spots,” Stanworth said. Senior Halle Ahrens led the team with seven kills and Kassie Luce had six against Plateau Valley, while Kassie and Klinglesmith led the team with 15 digs each. Against the Mustangs from West Grand, coach Stanworth gave credit to the ladies on the front line. “Halle Ahrens, Krissie Luce and Reese Pertile did a great job at the net,” Stanworth said. “Our defense also didn’t let much drop.” Krissie Luce led the team with 15 kills, Pertile had nine and Ahrens finished with eight, while Ahrens led the team with five blocks and Pertile had three. Krissie Luce had 16 digs against the Mustangs, Burke had 14, Kassie Luce and Klinglesmith each had 10, while Phelan and Avery Watt each dug out nine serves. “Everyone did their jobs and we scrambled for every point,” Stanworth said. Meeker won the first game against the Mustangs 25-22 but lost the second 14-25, before coming back to win the next two, 25-18 and 25-19. Meeker’s C-team will play in Hotchkiss at 4 p.m., Friday and the JV will be the first game in Oak Creek this Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by the varsity.
