RANGELY I After a busy week of homecoming, the Rangely runners headed to Aspen on Saturday to run the Chris Severy Invitational. The weather was chilly for the junior high runners but quickly warmed up as the day went on.

The junior high runners had their last run of the year. “They all competed well at Aspen and throughout the season. It is fun having the junior high runners competing and practicing, they add a bit of excitement and energy to everything,” said Coach Scoggins. Seventh grader Norrah Patch ran a 18:47 and placed 47th. Eighth grader Philip Noyes was able to run a 22:49 and placed 89th. Seventh grader Colton Noel was right behind him with a time of 22:49 and placed 90th.
The two female runners Raelynn Norman and Chloe Filfred ran really well. “Aspen is not just a tough physical race but also a tough mental race. Both girls went out and mentally stayed tough when it could have been easy for them to give up,” said coach Beth Scoggins.
Raelynn Norman started out in the middle of the pack but picked off girls as the race went on. She placed 20th with a time of 26:47. Chloe Filfred was able to place 51st with a time of 32:19.
Junior Patrick Scoggins took off in first place and was able to hold that position the entire race placing first overall with a time of 18:52.
“Patrick ran with a lot of confidence today, he had a goal of making everyone catch him if they were going to beat him and they couldn’t catch him. The second place was 37 seconds behind him.”
Next in line for Rangely was freshman Nick Miears, who was able to place 27th with a time of 23:36.
“It is always a goal to not add a ton of time but to keep working as the hills keep coming and that is exactly what Nick, Landon and Brennan did the whole race.”
Landon Rowley was able to run a 25:23 and placed 45th. Brennan Noyes was able to improve his time from last year by running a 26:15 and placed 50th.
The cross country team will be running in Rifle on Thursday, Oct. 13.
