Scoggins wins another one

RANGELY | The Rangely Panther cross country team traveled to Rifle to compete this past Thursday. The competition keeps getting tougher as the size of the meet continues to grow as this year’s field had 342 runners. RaeLynn Norman took off hard and was able to hold her own against the other 147 female runners, placing 52nd with a time of 23:59.22. Chloe Filfred ran another great race, finishing in 27:04.56, good enough for 107th place. Shortly after the girls crossed the finish line, the boys stepped up to the starting line, a pack of 194. Cameron Filfred, who has struggled with some injuries this season, was finally able to race again and placed 167th with a time of 24:09.34. Brennan Noyes finished a little ahead of Cameron in 23:10.87 in 159th place. Young Nick Miears keeps improving and astounding everyone, as he ran a 20:02.69 taking 86th. “Throughout this whole season Nick has been running with big goals in mind, doing everything he can to chase them down, from nailing workouts in practice to dropping time in the races. I’m super excited for him, he’s got a ton of potential and I can’t wait to see where his running can take him,” said teammate Patrick Scoggins. Scoggins had a great race for the Panthers on Rifle’s 5K course that wound throughout the fairways of the local golf course. Running from behind for the majority of the race, Scoggins tracked down the leader with about 600 meters left and made his move. He pushed the pace all the way through the finish line, winning by 8 seconds with a time of 16:58.70. The Panthers run in Delta next weekend for the Colorado 2A Region 4 Championships, where they will be competing for a chance to qualify for the state meet. “I am very excited for this group of kids. We’ve got a lot of potential and along with all their hard work this year, I believe we’ll see some great results next weekend,” said coach Beth Scoggins.
