Operation Christmas Child …

It’s better to give than receive, and the time is now to put together a shoebox full of Christmas gifts for needy children around the world. Last year Operation Christmas Child, coordinated in Meeker by Emmanuel Baptist Church, sent 364 shoeboxes to children worldwide. This year shoeboxes will be collected Nov. 14-20 at Emmanuel Baptist. Suggested items include toiletries and personal hygiene items like toothpaste, soap, and hair combs, socks, mittens, hats, school supplies and a “wow” toy or two for each box. No chocolate, liquids, military or war-related (including camouflage items), are permitted, as many of the recipients live in war-torn regions. There are three age groups. Labels and boxes are available at the LAI/Meeker Spirit/Meeker Embroidery store at the corner of Fifth and Main (the former office supply store).
