Kanionette “Kay” Cudo, 79, of Rangely, Colo., passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at the Rangely Hospital

Kay was born Feb. 27, 1938, in Lawrence, Kan., the daughter of Edwin Collins and Aleta Lucile (Soxman) Nelson. She spent her childhood in Great Bend, Kan., and then graduated from Cherry Creek High School in Cherry Creek, Colo. She then attended Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah. She also lived in Washington, D.C.; Lancaster, Canada; Gaithersburg; Manassas; Springfield, Mo.; and Rangely, Colo. During her working career she was an administrative assistant at Deserado Mine and retired as a bank teller at First National Bank of the Rockies. She was a resident of Rangely for 39 years.
She married Jack Strain and he preceded her in death Nov. 8, 1988, and she married Charles M. Cudo on March 27, 1982, in Rangely, Colo., and he preceded her in death Nov. 6, 2012.
Kay enjoyed hiking, hunting, four wheeling, fishing, camping, crocheting and baking.
Survivors include her sons, Craig Strain of Omaha, Neb., Scott Strain of Maple Shade, N.J.; stepsons Todd Cudo of Onalaska, Wis., Samm Cudo of Rangely, Colo., and daughters Peri Braunagel of Gillette, Wyo., Renee Collins of Fruita, Colo., Amy Elder of Rangely, Colo.; sisters Debbie Esposito of Philadelphia, Penn., Linda Nelson Whitman of Santa Barbara, Calif.; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, and a sister, Karen Stewart.
A celebration of life luncheon for Kay will be held Friday, March 24, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the Rangely Elks Lodge. Burial will be held privately.
