Panther tracksters continue to improve

Special to the Herald Times
RANGELY | Even though it was prom at the high school the Panthers set out to compete at the Frank Woodburn Invitational in Grand Junction on Saturday, April 8. They only had 13 athletes compete but all of them did a good job. The wind was howling all day long, so times and distances weren’t as good as we would have liked them but they were close to PR which means the athletes are improving.
For the boys, senior Troy Allred competed in the triple jump with a jump of 39 feet 4 inches, taking sixth place, in the long jump he jumped 17-02 for 12th place then ran the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.58. Junior Patrick Scoggins ran the 1,600-meter in 4:49.91 for 4th place then the 800-meter with a time of 2:05.33 for second place. Junior Austin Ficken was able to take ninth place in the shot with a throw of 41-06 then in the discus a 102-04. Sophomore Marshall Webber was able to bring a fifth place home in the 110 high hurdles with a new personal record of 18.08, the 300 hurdles he ran in 45.09 taking seventh place. Riley Boydstun, sophomore, threw the discus for 97-08 and junior Cameron Filfred for 94-04. Freshman Brady Boydstun ran a 100-meter dash for a time of 19.83. The boys were able to put together a 4×200 made up of Scoggins, Webber, Tytus Coombs and Allred, they took sixth place with a time of 1:40.26.
For girls, senior Lindsey Thacker compete in the high jump with a jump of 4-06 taking ninth place then ran the 100 dash with a time of 14.02. Senior Mikayla Filfred threw the shot for a distance of 22-03 and the discus for 66-06. Sophomore Raelynn Norman ran the mile for a time of 6:40.70 placing 10th. Freshman Zoey Peck was busy running and jumping. She ran the 100 dash in 14.44 and the 400 in 1:13.66, which is a new personal record. She long jumped for 11-11 and triple jumped 25-02.
