Lady Panthers do well against DeBeque, Caprock

RANGELY | Rangely volleyball had a successful weekend. They headed to Debeque on Friday to take on the Dragons. JV took to the court first looking for a win. Friday’s game at DeBeque was a tough fight. First set went back and forth for awhile with the Panthers overcoming to win 28-26. Second set came out 25-23 in favor of the DeBeque Dragons. Finally, the third and deciding set the Panthers came from behind to win 18-16 for the overall victory. The girls showed that they wanted it more and fought hard to come from behind to win.
Varsity followed and appeared to look a little flat as they took to the court, and Debeque took notice as they led most of the first set. Rangely found some fire and took the first set 25-22, with some great net play and serving. In the second set Rangely came out ready to play taking the second set 25-17. The ladies served well and Kassidee Brown did a great job moving the ball around to all her hitters. Rangely was ready to put the third set away when they took the court. Serving, and defense in the third set proved to be too much for Debeque as Rangely won 25-14. Sarah Connor lead the team with 11 earned points behind the service line with two of those being aces. Katelyn Brown led the team in kills with eight, and Klaire Denny and Sarah Connor contributed four kills each.
Saturday, Rangely volleyball hosted Caprock. Once again the lady Panthers came from behind for the “W.” The first set was a decisive win: 25-11; however, the second set started off a little rocky and Panthers dug a hole of around six points. The Panthers again fought back and ended up winning that set 25-19 with the final push served by junior Makenze Cochrane who went on a nine point run to close out the match. JV lady Panthers now boast a record over .500 at four wins to three losses.
Varsity swept Caprock in three sets, 25-13, 25-17 and 25-19. Katelyn Brown led the team with 11 earned points behind the service line, with Halie Elam adding 11 earned points. Katelyn Brown and Sarah Connor both led with eight kills each. Skylar Thacker led the team with 15 digs. The ladies struggled to get things going as they faced a different line up. They pushed through and got the win, putting them at 6-2 overall and 3-0 in league.
Come support Rangely volleyball this Friday as they host North Park. Games start at 4 p.m.
