  • Four incumbents and four challengers will be running for three town council and the mayor positions. Incumbents Charles Tate, Mike Whalin, Tom Pysto and Mayor Darold Hedenskog. Challenging them will be Ray McKee, K. James Cook and Jan Hughley, while Gus Halandras will be opposing Hedenskog for the mayor’s seat.
  • The CNCC outreach program in Meeker graduated their second and third students recently when Bill Rucker anded out Associate and General Studies diplomas to Lori Chintala and Bud Miles.
  • Meeker High School Honor Society members: Kristy Hughes, Chris Nelson, Danette Purcell, Nanette Freeman, Blake Mobley, Ann Batka, Kelly Griffin and Julie Dunham.

  • City marshal Sam Cron has asked that we call attention to the change in several traffic signs in Meeker.
  • The Tom Murray Market celebrated its second anniversary.

  • Sears, Roebuck and Co. is rolling back prices on more than 50,000 items, it was announced today.
  • A baby shower was held for Georgann Prosser in January. K.C. Louis was born Feb. 13, 1989.
  • The town has purchased a fax machine. The town council has agreed to make it available for use by area residents at a nominal cost for the receiving and sending of written messages and material.

  • Five petitions were turned in for the office of trustee, for the town election.
  • At the Campus Theatre: “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “The Naked Ape Is Only Human,” and “The Biscuit Eater.”
  • All of us who mailed a letter since Saturday have already felt the sting of the latest victim of inflation. Ten years ago it cost 4 cents to do the same thing. However, the 25 percent rise to a dime for a postage stamp is mild medicine compared to what is happening to newspapers and magazines.
  • The Rangely High School student body president is senior Kenneth Blaine Eckerdt.

  • The town board agreed to raise the marshal’s salary to $400 per month. After much discussion the board voted to ask the county for $10 for each night that the town marshal was required to stay at the jail with a county prisoner.
  • Eldon Reeves, Rambler salesman. Ramblers now available in Rangely! Even better economy for ‘59!
  • “I want it to be known among the people of Rangely that I have faith in the future of Rangely. It will NOT die (but you and I will have to keep it alive). I also want it known that I intend to make my home here for the rest of my life.” James M. Talmadge, Dairy King.
