Record-setters at Rangely’s annual fishing derby

RANGELY I Rio Blanco Water Conservancy District’s annual fishing derby took place June 1 and 2, with several new records set. There were 158 entrants, a derby record, and more than 312 pounds of fish caught, another record. Listed below are more winners.

YOUTH WINNERS

6 years and Under

Longest Crappie – Hailey Armstrong 11 ½ inch

Longest Trout – Kassidy Sanford 12 ½ inch

Longest Fish – Adalynn Mazzuca 17 inch Carp

7 years – 10 years

Longest Crappie – No entry

Longest Trout – Brooke Davis 11 7/8 inch

Longest Fish –

1st Place Terran Allen 18 ½ inch carp

2nd Place Cash Leischer 18 3/8 inch carp

11 years – 15 years

Longest Crappie – Nathan Sherman 12 ½ inch

Longest Trout – Sierra Rowley 13 inches

Longest Fish – Nathan Sherman 18 inch carp

OVERALL DERBY WINNERS

Longest Crappie – Kenneth Henson Jr. 12 5/8  inch

Longest Trout – Ian Guzman 18 ¾ inch

Shortest Fish – Lucas Lee 2 3/8 inch green sunfish (Derby Record)

Longest Fish – Christopher Cordova 30 1/8 inch carp

Heaviest Stringer –

1st Place – Grandpa Sherman and His Fish Wacker’s with 93 lbs. 8 oz. (Derby Record)

(Team members include Earl Sherman, Rebeca Sherman, Alex Sherman, and Nathan Sherman)

2nd Place – Wormy Hookers with 63 lbs. 12 oz.

(Team members include Tristan Moore, Austin Davis, Braxton Moore, and Lou Burger)

3rd Place – Junk Fish with 35 lbs. 10 oz.

(Team members include Mercedes Lestrud and Cody Vanden Brink)
