– The rainy season closed Monday with one of the heaviest rains seen in these parts since Noah was a sailor.
– Mr. and Mrs. H.S. Harp arrived in Meeker last Saturday evening and received a cordial welcome from Mr. Harp’s numerous friends.
– About this time six years ago Meeker was witnessing livelier times than now. We were then in the midst of the excitement incidental to the last Ute trouble. How time does fly!

– High school opens Sept. 16.
– A week of dry and windy weather.
– Tom Ruckman of the Park, mingled with his town friends for time, week end.
– The coming week will see the completion of the new Baer Block. When finished, the corner will present a handsome and commodious appearance; in fact, the new corner store room would do credit to 16th Street in Denver, in its fine plate and art glass front, extending full frontage on Sixth and Main streets.
– It seems to be the general opinion that there will be considerable building in Meeker next year.
– Messrs. Bender and Clinard are making progress in their brick-making enterprises these days.
– Charles E. Hill, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.P. Hill of Rangely, is among the Rio Blanco boys now in France.

– Several juveniles from the Meeker area were arrested by the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s department Monday evening. The juveniles were believed to have been involved in several break-ins in Rio Blanco and Garfield counties reported since Aug. 15.
– Sgt. Charles Crook and wife of Minot Air Force base, North Dakota, arrived in Meeker monday for a few weeks visit at the home of Sgt. Crook’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Crook and family.
– Last Friday night’s dance failed to materialize, but don’t give up. The senior class of ‘69 has one scheduled for this Saturday night, Aug. 24, with “The Strangers” from Craig playing at the IOOF hall.

– The Herald would like to introduce to the community five new teachers within the Re-1 School District this fall. Dennis Moore, a sixth grade math and physical teacher this year; Stan Wyatt, the new MHS history and current issues instructor who will also be heading up the boys basketball program; Gerald Durkop, the new special ed instructor at the middle school; Judy DenBleyker, the district’s speech pathologist who arrive at mid-term last year; and Jennifer Paschal, who has joined the staff at Barone Middle School as the Chapter One reading instructor.
– Mike Hoke has his son David Hoke and his friend Chad Clark visiting from Grand Junction. They will be here for a week’s vacation before starting school in Grand Junction again. So far they have enjoyed some fishing, target practicing and bowling.

– Mr. Robert Daniels of Grand Junction has been appointed deputy sheriff for the Rangely are of Rio Blanco County, as announced by county Sheriff Bob Kracht.
– One hundred and eighty-five entries in the fifth annual flower show brought smiles of delight and prized ribbons to many gardeners of the Rangely area. Mrs. Wilma Winn and Miss Grace Petz took home the sweepstakes awards.
– Lisle T. Hass, a graduate of Berkeley Baptist Divinity School and recent pastor of the Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Johnston City, Illinois, will assume duties of the pastorate of the First Baptist Church here Sept. 1. He and his wife Octa and their three sons will arrive in Rangely this week.
– Mr. and Mrs. Rex Shaw from Glenwood Springs, Colo., were guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Roberts and children Monday afternoon.

– The price of oil is down and is expected to go lower. As a result, evaluation is down somewhat, and will probably in another year, go even lower. This means less tax revenue. Less tax revenue means less services.
