Chloe Filfred improves time on Aspen course

RANGELY | The Rangely high school cross country team ran at the Chris Severy Meet in Aspen this past Saturday. This is one of the more challenging courses with the higher altitude and the many hills throughout the course. The race had a JV and varsity division and Rangely took advantage of it. Brooke Filfred took to the line in the JV meet running a 45:14.

For the varsity girls, Mary Scoggins finished 11th with a time of 25:24. Raelynn Norman had a good mental race, during the middle of the race she was able to race down another runner and stay ahead of her the rest of the race. She was able to finish with a 27:00. Aliyah Jackson was the next in line with a 27:58. Chloe Filfred worked hard during the race and was able to better her time from last year by 2 minutes, her time this year was 28:59.

The boys ran pretty well with Marshal Webber leading the way with a time of 23:22. Colton Noel was next with a time of 26:05 followed by Timothy Scoggins with a 28:07

Thursday’s meet on the Rifle Creek Golf Course was cancelled due to weather. Regionals are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 19 in Delta.

The junior high runners had their last meet of the season on Saturday at the Chris Severy Meet in Aspen. The team had four boys running at the meet. They started early and had to deal with wet grass, mud and chilly weather as well as the hills. The course was 1.85 miles long but is a slow course since it is on uneven terrain and with several big hills.

Anthony Dorris led the team today, he took 29th with a 20:26. Andrew Dorris was second on the team with a 22:06, Fisher Winder was right behind with with a 22:07. Justin Allred had a good race finishing with a 22:26. “The boys made great improvements and it was fun seeing them run together as a team. If they stick with it they will be good in the future,” said coach Scoggins.

The team was missing their one girl runner Macy Morgan this weekend. “She also made great improvements and also has a great smile on her face,” said coach Scoggins.
