Diane Dunbar McKee

Dec. 2, 1943 ~ Oct. 9, 2018

Diane Dunbar McKee, died on Oct. 9, 2018, at the age of 74. Diane was born on Dec. 2, 1943,  in Glenwood Springs, Colo., to Kenneth Glenn and Lucille Zook Dunbar. She was raised in Meeker,  Colo., with her older brother,  Keith. Diane attended school in Meeker and graduated in 1962. She went on to attend Mesa College in Grand Junction, Colo., and graduated with her associate degree.

Diane married USMC Sergeant Lonnie Ray McKee on Dec. 11, 1966. They returned to California so that Ray could finish his military service,  but eventually returned back to Meeker to raise their girls.

On Oct. 26, 1967, the couple welcomed Shannon Kay and on July 10, 1972, Kelly Rae joined the family home.

Diane will be remembered as an accomplished dancer.  She was invited to dance with the Rockettes in New York City, but couldn’t leave her daddy.  She played the piano and had a beautiful voice, a trait that both her grandchildren inherited.

Diane will also be known for her love of playing cards, Scrabble and working crossword puzzles. She loved growing peonies and watching hummingbirds.

A service is scheduled for Oct. 20, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the Rifle Assembly of God, 550 E. Fifth St., Rifle, Colo., with a luncheon to follow.  Pastor BJ Worthen will officiate.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Diane’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Rifle Assembly of God church.

Diane is survived by her daughters, Shannon McKee of Rifle and Kelly McKee of Silt, her grandchildren, Rachel Rennie of Rifle and USMC Corporal Colby Rennie, currently on deployment.  She was preceded in death by her parents, sister (Kay Dunbar), brother and husband.

The family would like to thank the staff at Home Care and Hospice of the Valley, Brown’s Cremation and Funeral Services, Pastor BJ  Worthen and Krispen Maske for their compassionate care.
