The advent of safe, effective measures of birth control in the 1960s arguably changed the culture of the country by allowing men and women the freedom to plan when to start a family on their own terms, reducing teen pregnancy and unwanted pregnancies. However, according to www.powertodecide.org, “more than 19 million women eligible for publicly funded contraception don’t have access to the full range of birth control methods where they live.”
The organization has named Nov. 13 “Thanks, Birth Control” day as a way to remind people of the importance of access to affordable, effective birth control for all.
On Nov. 13, Rio Blanco County Public Health Nurse Janelle Borchard will be “giving out some free swag” to people who stop by the office at 200 Main St. and ask about the department’s family planning program. #thxbirthcontrol
