MEEKER | “Earlier this year, Denver Bronco Von Miller was moved to action by the deaths of three Colorado’s sheriff’s deputies and the number of mass shootings across the country. Miller rallied the rest of his team and decided it was time for the Broncos to show tangible support for the local law enforcement agencies who selflessly serve across Colorado,” according to a statement from the Broncos and Shield 616.
Shield 616 is an organization that helps equip first responders with gear for necessary, advanced active shooter/crowd control situations, and provides a support group for first responders. Gear is donated, and replaced every five years at no charge to any first responder or department.
The Denver Broncos and Shield 616 raised $200,000 in five days and dispersed the funds to 31 different law enforcement agencies and fire departments throughout Colorado.
The Meeker Police Department is one of the agencies chosen to receive lifesaving equipment, including two bullet “rifle” proof vests, helmets, first aid kits and carriers to be used in case of active shooter, barricade suspect, high risk warrant entries, etc.
“The equipment is very expensive, and is very appreciated,” said Chief Phil Stubblefield.
