June incidents up 6.4 percent

RBC | During June 2009, the Rio Blanco County Communications Center experienced a 6.4 percent increase in activity compared to June 2008.
Total incidents received through the communications center increased to 1,055 in June 2009, up from 992 in June 2008. The number of calls for service decreased for the sheriff’s office with 238 incidents in June 2009, down from 267 in June 2008. Traffic stops increased significantly from 414 in June 2008 to 544 in June 2009 for the sheriff’s office, accounting for the overall increase in activity. The Meeker P.D. responded to 202 calls for service during June 2009, also down slightly from 207 in June 2008. Traffic stops for the Meeker P.D. decreased with 51 stops in June 2009, down from 61 stops in June 2008.
Activity for both agencies included these most notable classifications: 595 traffic stops; 50 VIN inspections; 41 animal calls; 37 suspicious incidents; 28 traffic arrests; 21 motorist assists; 20 incidents assisting the Colorado State Patrol; 15 citizen assists; 15 traffic complaints; 14 accidents with property damage; 13 disturbances; 13 thefts; 12 civil situations; 12 warrant arrests; 11 alarm calls; eight criminal mischief cases; 8 DUIs; five narcotics cases; five restraining order violations; three burglaries; three domestic violence cases; three juvenile problems; two injury accidents; two fraud cases; two liquor/MIP violations; one auto theft; one harassment case; one trespass case and one unattended death.
During June 2009, the Rio Blanco County Detention Center continued to operate at near capacity, housing a daily average of 17.13 inmates, with 15.17 males and 1.97 females, consistent with the daily average of 17.35 logged during May 2009. The number of bookings decreased in June 2009 with 104 people processed in the detention center, up from 88 bookings in May 2009. Of the 104 people processed, 93 were jailed and 11 were booked and released. The number of meals served by the detention center decreased from 1,347 meals served in May 2009 to 1,275 meals served in June 2009.
The communications center logged 6,137 incidents during the first six months of 2009, an increase of 10.2 percent, up from 5,569 incidents during the same period in 2008. The Meeker P.D. responded to 1,100 calls for service at the mid-year point, a decrease of 1.2 percent, down from 1,113 calls for service during the same period last year. Traffic stops for the Meeker P.D. decreased 50.5 percent, with 255 stops in the first six months of 2009 down from 515 stops in 2008. The sheriff’s office experienced an 11.5 percent decrease in calls for service at the mid-year point, with 1,321 calls in 2009 down from 1,492 calls in 2008. Traffic stops for the sheriff’s office increased 50.3 percent during the first six months of 2009, with 3,330 stops up from 2,215 stops in 2008, accounting for the overall increase in activity for the year.
Incidents decreased for law enforcement in the Piceance Creek area during the first six months of 2009 when compared to totals from 2008. Of the 45 classifications monitored, only one classification has increased. Two burglaries have occurred in the Piceance Creek area, up from zero in 2008. Eight classifications are on track to meet or exceed totals from 2008. Those classifications include: animal calls, civil situations, criminal mischief cases, SMM contacts/violations, suspicious incidents, traffic arrests, traffic stops and VIN inspections.
