MEEKER | At Tuesday’s Meeker Town Board of Trustees meeting, Meeker Mayor Regas Halandras swore in Lisa Cook as the new Town Manager.
This position carries enormous responsibility. Cook’s own modest summary, “I serve at the pleasure of the Board of Trustees,” does not fully describe her duties, which includes administering and managing whatever the board needs.
Also sworn in was Amy Tupy as new Town Clerk, another position of great responsibility, involving general record keeping for the town.
Other business included the board’s acceptance of an application for a hotel and restaurant liquor license for “The Fork,” a new restaurant at 374 Seventh St. A public hearing on the matter will be held on March 15.
The board also voiced concern over what have been labeled “dangerous buildings” in Meeker. A list has been compiled of such properties, as well as others which “need attention.” This list is based on both complaints from residents and on what the police department recognizes as a hazard.
Bids for various vehicles were also announced by Mayor Halandras. A single bid of $36,851 for a 2018 or 2019 4-door SUV police patrol vehicle was received from John Elway Chevrolet. Three bids were announced for a 2019 4-wheel drive loader and five bids concerning the 2019 crack seal project. The approved bids will be awarded at the next council meeting, March 5.
