McAlister honored for dispatch work

RANGELY | At the Town of Rangely board meeting March 12, Dispatch Supervisor Mercy McAlister was recognized by the NG911 Institute as a “public safety professional from the public sector for their leadership, professionalism, initiative, creativity, and diligence in assisting a person reporting and/or experiencing an emergency situation or solving a critical 911 issue.”
Town Manager Lisa Piering made sure McAlister was recognized for all she has been doing as the lead dispatcher. Dispatch has hired three new dispatchers.
“They are doing phenomenal, exceeding all of our expectations, picking up on the training really fast. We are really excited to have them,” McAlister said. Piering told the board dispatch will be back to full time, dispatching 24/7 and said, “It will be better for our community.”
The board had a discussion and approved Resolution 2019-02, opposing enactment of any legislation that would infringe upon the right of the people to keep and bear arms and considering such laws to be unconstitutional and beyond legislative authority. It was approved.
Resolution 2019-01 approving the town manager’s administrative organization for the Town of Rangely was also approved.
Daniel Connor is under contract with the Rangely Police Department upon the completion of the required P.O.S.T. Certification training. He will be returning to Rangely to become an officer with the police department. It came before the board to increase the budgeted funds by $4,500 due to insufficient funding through the GI Bill, which would also change the contract for reimbursement. It was approved. Piering informed the board, “He is at the head of his class.”
Konnie Billgren, executive director of Rangely Chamber of Commerce, discussed the next few months. Billgren is working on a relocation booklet to give to people who are being transferred or moving to Rangely for work. The chamber is looking at providing porta-potties and trash bins for the upcoming OHV rallies. ROAR, OHV Rally and Ride, starts May 3 and will go through May 5. Becky’s Walk, a fundraiser for multiple sclerosis, in honor of Becky Dubbert, will be on May 11.
