New PRs for Panther tracksters at Wertman

RHS senior Raelynn Norman’s track specialties are the 800-meter, 3,200-meter and 1,600-meter runs.

RANGELY | The track and field team for Rangely traveled to Stocker Stadium on Friday for the Phil Wertman Invitational hosted by Fruita Monument High School. The meet was a smaller meet compared to some of the other meets that Rangely has attended, there were just 12 teams. 

Many of the girls were able to get new season’s best scores or even place in the top eight.

Senior Makenze Cochrane was the lead scorer for the girls placing in both the shot and discus. Cochrane earned a new personal best in the shot with a throw of 33 feet, 6 inches which was good enough for fourth place. In the discus, she placed third with a throw of 105-6. Freshman Mary Scoggins was the next lead scorer for the team taking third in triple jump and seventh in the 1,600-meter run. Scoggins jumped  32-6.25 in the triple jump then took 11 seconds off her 1,600 run for a time of 5:53.50. Sophomore Dixie Rhea was able to get a new personal best in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.39 which was good enough for third place.  

Other girls with personal bests were Chloe Goshe in the 100-meter dash as well as Angelina Peck. Peck got a new personal best in the triple jump of 25-11.

On the boys’ side, senior Marshall Webber was the lead scorer, placing in both the 110 high hurdles and in the 300-meter hurdles. In the 110’s Webber placed seventh with a new season’s best of 17.22 and then placed third in the 300. For the 300 he also got a new season’s best of 43.78. The next highest scorer was Riley Boydstun who took fifth in the shot with a throw of 40-9.

Freshman Colton Noel took 11 seconds off his 1,600-meter run and nearly 1.5 seconds off his 200-meter dash. Timothy Scoggins took 0.5 off his 200-meter run. 

The Rangely track team will host the Rangely Invitational this upcoming Saturday. They are expecting about 10 teams this season.
