Panthers perform well despite weather

RANGELY | The Rangely Panthers track and field team traveled to the Clint Wells Invitational at the Moffat County High School on Friday. Despite the windy weather and lightning delays the Panthers performed well.  The meet had 18 teams with several from Wyoming.

For the boys, senior Riley Boydstun threw two personal bests, one in shot put and the other in discus. He took fifth in the discus with a throw of 133 feet, 8 inches and seventh in the shot for a distance of 41-6.5.  Marshall Webber took fourth in the 110 high hurdles and second in the 300 hurdles. Freshman Timothy Scoggins got a new personal best in high jump as he cleared 5-5 and placing seventh. Brent Cantrell also freshman got a new personal best in the shot for a throw of 22-9.5.

The girls placed place 10th as a team which is too bad with only 10 girls competing in the meet. Senior Breana Davis placed 11th in the shot put. Makenze Cochrane was able to get a new personal best in the shot put with a throw of 33-8 for sixth place. She also took second in the discus for a distance of 106. Elena Forbes got a new season’s best with a throw of 77-10. Junior Hannah Wilkie took first in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5 minutes 30.55 seconds. Chloe Filfred had a new seasonal best in the 1,600 with a time of 6:57.54. Freshman, Angelina Peck was able to get two personal best one in the 100-meter dash with a time of 15.57 and triple jump with a new distance of 26-1.5. Mary Scoggins was able to take seventh in the triple jump and sixth in the high jump. In high jump she had a new personal best of 4-7.

On Saturday, the track team helped with the middle school meet that hosted nine teams and 344 athletes. The Panthers next meet will be the Western Slope meet at Stocker Stadium. They will only be racing against 1A and 2A athletes from 12 different teams.
