100 years ago

As yet, no frost damage.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Robinson have returned home after spending most of the past winter at Fort Collins. Two of the girls are still at the college taking advanced studies.

The Decoration Day program was carried out as announced, last Monday, and was a success in every way, except that the exercises in the hall in the afternoon were not as largely attended as usual, owing, no doubt, to the aviation attraction on the outside.

Jerry Oldland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Oldland of Meeker, has been selected to receive the State Farmer Degree. Only 2% of all FFA members receive this award.

Four new babies have been born at Pioneers Hospital. Arriving May 21 was a daughter for Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Lopez. She has been named Jennifer Ann. It was a boy for Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Martin of Rangely. Brett Paul arrived May 29. Also arriving on May 29 was a girl for Mr. and Mrs. Joe Carstens. They have named their daughter Suzanne Janine. Superintendent of schools Bob King and wife Margaret are the proud parents of a son born May 31. He has been named Coley Marvin.

The Meeker Planning Commission is currently looking at establishing a mixed residential zone that would allow manufactured homes of all sizes in the lower west end of town.

Regas Halandras and Mary Ann Etchart just volunteered to travel to a country where few people speak English, French or even Greek, where refrigeration is a new concept and running water is usually found in a stream. They left this week for Kyrgyzstan, the far eastern Mongolian region of the former Soviet Union.

Lt. Gary McDonald, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred McDonald of Rangely, soloed April 18 in the F-5 (T-38) jet plane. He is completing training as a contact fighter pilot at Laughlin AFB at Del Rio, Texas.

The Rangely Days parade for this year will use as its theme, “Parade of Progress.” The annual parade, sponsored by the Rangely Jaycees, is held in conjunction with the Rangely Saddle Club’s annual Rangely Days Rodeo.

 The indiscriminate use of spray paint by members of the Class of 1969 on buildings, signs, etc., during the past few weeks was thoughtless, defacing and costly to many property owners who must pay to have the paint removed or covered. At least 15 buildings in Rangely were defaced in this manner this year.

It’s time to gather your family and friends and head out to Columbine Park for the third annual Mud Race. This year’s race promises to be the biggest and best one yet. That’s right, the Rangely Racing Association is going to put on a sanctioned race. What this means is, not only are the racers competing for prize money, but for points, too.

Lance Dylan Worrall was awarded the highest rank in Cub Scouts April 28. He was presented with his Arrow of Light.
