Letter: Museum recognizes event supporters

The Rangely Museum’s annual Ice Cream Social was Sunday, Sept. 6, during Septemberfest weekend. We had a big crowd and served lots of ice cream, including sampling seven entries in the homemade ice cream contest. Our winners were: first place and a check for $125 went to Pauline Miller with caramel apple; second place and a check for $75 went to Julie Noyes with vanilla bean crunch; and third place and a check for $50 went to Susan Dempsey with peach pie. Congratulations to all our winners and a big thank-you to all our contest participants; Kari Way with coconut lime, Mara Wagner with cookies and cream, Michelle Robertson with old-fashioned french vanilla, and Linda Rossow with cinnamon. These were all great; be sure to try again next year.
Our entertainment was a quartet from the Sweet Adelines, hailing from Craig and Meeker. It’s amazing how they harmonize and without any background music. It was a lot of fun, but to put on such an event calls for donations and volunteers, which we couldn’t do without. First, I want to thank W.C. Striegel for donating the $250 for the contest winners. The Lodging Tax Board for the $350 for our nice big newspaper adds. The White River Market for donating 13 pails of ice cream. Nichols Store, for donating 15 20-pound bags of ice. Loyann and Jerry Hayes for donating all the supplies needed. Second, I’d like to praise all of our wonderful volunteers: Dorothy and Shirley Collins, Gail Palmer and Krystal Thomas for helping serve ice cream; Tyrell Thomas and Roland Hopson, who graciously volunteered to be deputies and Norm Hall Sr. as our sheriff; Cheryl Robertson, who missed out on all the fun and ice cream to man the buildings and the gift shop; Gordon Byers, Loyann Hayes and Cheryl Robertson for loaning their coolers; and Samantha Storey who helped me set up, hang posters, signs, flags, helped serve and anything else I asked of her. Also, everyone who helped with the grueling task of cleaning up afterward. We can’t forget our illustrious judges who will remain anonymous. You all did a fantastic job and are greatly appreciated.
