UPDATE: Tomorrow’s Meekerpalooza and Farmer’s Market are still on despite the rain and low temps, according to a Facebook post (see below). The Park to Art Race is also a go for all lengths per ERBM Recreation and Park District as of 5 p.m. Friday.
MEEKER | Festivals are a quintessential American pastime, and there’s no shortage of experiences to choose from. A few are amazing, some are great, but most are overcrowded and expensive.
That’s exactly what Meekerpalooza isn’t. Set in the heart of Meeker, this free event features fun for all, set to a soundtrack of some of the best bluegrass and folk music around. Headliners this year include The Samples, Tara Rose & the Real Deal, Bottle Rocket Hurricane, Mountain Strange, and High Pass Drifters.
The morning kicks off with a mixed terrain race through Meeker and the surrounding trail system. Athletes can choose from 5K, 10K or half marathon lengths and head for the downtown finish line and a great breakfast.
If you’d rather shop than run, stroll through the farmer’s market. Discover local goodies, artisan crafts, and produce that’s fresher than the Prince of Bel-Air. Farmer’s market fruits and veggies not only support the local economy, they’re on average less than a day from harvest when you buy them.
The banjos come out at 11 a.m. Grab a beverage from the beer garden, find a nice shady spot to kick back, and enjoy the sounds of summer.
After a bit of relaxation, test your tossing skills in a competitive cornhole tournament starting at noon. The more you drink, the better you get, according to locals. You’ll have to test the theory for yourself.
For kiddos, a Kidz Art Zone with free craft supplies is open from 1 to 3 p.m.
Bands and the beer garden close at 7 p.m., and you’ll leave with a day’s worth of delightful summer memories.
