Kobald gets award for ‘Boredom’

Meeker artist John Kobald received the Leonard J. Meiselman Memorial Award for a realistic sculpture Sept. 4 in Salina, Kan., at the Rolling Hills Wildlife Adventure.
Kobald’s bronze sculpture of a tarpon is called “Boredom Breaker.”
This year was the 49th annual exhibition of “Art and the Animal,” which will travel to The Wildlife Experience in Parker, the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, the Green Acres Arts Center in Cincinnati, the Dunnegan Gallery in Bolivar, Mo., and then on to the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
The Society of Animal Artists, of which Kobald is a signature member, is an association of animal and wildlife painters and sculptors. Kobald designed and created the mountain lion sculpture located at the corner of Market and Fifth streets in Meeker.
