MEEKER | The Meeker Classic has added an extra day of competition this year and will offer free admission to spectators. This will bring folks to town earlier, adding to local business coffers and help accommodate the ever-increasing waiting list of 300 plus entries.
One hundred seventy sheepdogs will compete this year, Sept. 3-8, with the preliminary rounds scheduled for Tuesday through Friday. Semi-finals and finals will be on the weekend, as usual. “Adding the fourth day of preliminary competition makes the Meeker Classic the largest trial in North America,” said Jason Boyce of DogTrialEntry.com, a national trial event and scoring service used by the Meeker Classic.
The extra day on Tuesday, Sept. 3 has been set up as a free admission day to attract folks that would not come otherwise. “Tuesday’s preliminary round will be managed exactly the same as Wednesday thru Friday, however the amenities around the actual trial will be limited,” said Board Chair Bruce Clatterbaugh.
