Dear Editor:
I read with great regret about the passing of Peggy Rector. She indeed was one of a rare breed—a true public citizen who served honorably and well with only the best interests of the public as her motivation. It was mainly because of her that I accepted the job of town manager in 1980, a decision not necessarily universally admired. Peggy was the mayor at the time and provided leadership for excellent town councils during challenging times. Later, serving as a county commissioner and a member of various other local, regional and state agencies, she was always available for good advice and recommendations in support of what was best for our town.
