RANGELY | The CNCC rodeo team made the short trip to Price, Utah this weekend for the USU Eastern college rodeo. Although the cowgirls struggled a bit with missed loops and tipped barrels, the cowboys posted their strongest weekend of the fall season.
Veteran all around cowgirl Kaycee Dezurney was CNCC’s lone women’s team competitor in the short round, placing seventh overall in the goat tying, just short of the points.
The men’s team earned 610 team points placing second overall, their highest total of the season, stacking up high placings on both the roughstock and the timed events ends of the arena.
Sophomore Beau Southern continued with his two event success, placing third in bareback riding, and second in bull riding. The biggest leaps came in the tie down roping with upperclassman cousins Wyatt and Payson Hallam absolutely dominating the field, placing first and second in the short round and first and second overall.
The men’s team totals were also bolstered by veteran Johnny Pavkov and roping partner Wyatt Hallam’s performance in the team roping, placing fourth in the short go and fourth in the average.
Freshman roughstock specialist McCall Hopkins posted his first results of the year, winning second in the long go of the bull riding with an electric 79 point ride, and finishing up fourth overall.
The Spartans will be headed to Logan, Utah, this coming weekend for the Utah State University rodeo, the fourth of five fall season events.
