RANGELY | The Rangely harriers had a busy week with two meets this week. They started the week at the Soroco School Night Invite in Oak Creek on Tuesday, Sept. 24 then ran in the Moffat County High School Invite on Saturday, Sept. 28 in Craig at Loudy Simpson Park. Both meets were smaller but had plenty of good competition, with school from 2A all the way to 4A schools.

Soroco is considered a slow meet since it is literally run through a hay field with lots of rolling hills and the finish line is on a hill. Runners have to be careful not to turn an ankle since the terrain is so uneven. “We were not worried about times with this race but more going for racing well and challenging ourselves to be in the front of the pack instead of the middle or even back of the pack at the start of the races,”’ said head coach Beth Scoggins.

Colton Noel was the first Rangely Panther to finish for the boys. He took 24th place with a time of 22:04. Andrew Dorris was nine places behind him with a time of 23:39 taking 33rd place. Fisher Winder keeps getting better took 41th place with a time of 25:07.

Mary Scoggins was the first Panther to cross for the girls taking fifth place with a time of 24:11. Hannah Wilkie was close behind with a time of 24:23 and in 8th place. Chloe Filfred finished with a time of 28:42. Rylee Allred gets improving ran a time of 36:32 while Brooke Filfred had a 42:24.

On Saturday, the team ran at the Loudy Simpson Park, this course is a faster course then on Tuesday night but many places the terrain is still uneven and there are two good hills on the course. Mary Scoggins finished 13th with a time of 22:34. Chloe Filfred had a better race on Saturday with a time of 25:35. Rylee Allred had a time of 33:20 followed by Brooke with a time of 39:16.

Colton Noel took 14th with a time of 20:54. Andrew Dorris had a time of 23:16 followed closely by Fisher Winder with a time of 23:57. Anthony Dorris was able to finish the race with a time of 29:05 after battling some injuries for the last couple of weeks.

The Panthers will be running next week on Friday in Delta at Confluence Park. It is where regionals will be so it will give the runners a chance to see the course before competing there on Oct. 18.

The junior high runners also had two meets this weekend with Soroco School Night and the Moffat County Invite.

The Soroco meet was a two mile run in a hay field. Joseph Doza was the first Rangely Panther to cross the line with a time of 17:25 for the course. Justin Allred came in right behind him for a time of 17:43. Colin Zadra had a time of 18:32; Spenser Polley and Braxton Shaffer came in together with a time of 20:31. James Talbot had a time of 20: 45 followed by Matthew Morgan 22:33. Macy Morgan had a time of 21:13.

The Moffat County Meet was a 3K race which is just short of two miles. The girls and boys ran together which means there are a lot of runners all at once. Zadra had a good race coming in first for the Panthers for a time of 19:13. James Talbot was about 30 seconds behind him with a time of 19:43. Justin Allred edged out Braxton Shaffer for a time of 20:02 and Shaffer had a time of 20:05. Macy Morgan had a time of 23:40 and Matthew Morgan had a time of 25:31.

The junior high will be running in the Pantherfest in Delta next week on Friday. This will be their last meet of the season.
