Rangely Rock Crawlers Club holds trail ride, competition

RANGELY I The local rock crawlers club held its third annual event last weekend, which included the usual trail ride as well as the first-ever rock crawling competition.
Drivers were divided into three classes. In the stock class, Bryan Newkirk of Craig was the winner, followed by Amanda More, also of Hayden, and Jon Hammond of Roosevelt, Utah.
In the modified class, Shawn Morgan of Rangely was first, followed by Kevin Bliss of Parachute and Leslie More of Hayden.
In the unlimited class, first was Dan Gersch from Grand Junction; second was Kevin Freeman from Crested Butte, and third was B.J. Kuboske from Montrose.
At the end of the trail ride and competition, there was a barbecue at Elks Park, prepared by the Rock Crawlers Club, and sponsored by Rangely Auto Parts. Peggy Rector provided homemade ice cream.
Afterward, there was a prize giveaway. All of the participants went away with a gift.
J.W. Quinn of Montrose was the winner of a tool box donated by W.C. Striegel; Kellon Wilczek of Rangely was the winner of the Optima Red Top Battery donated by Rangely Auto Parts; Dean Bulloch from Cedar City, Utah, won the jump start with compressor, donated by Shawn and Mike Morgan; Chris Hall of Rangely was the winner of the Warn winch, donated by Stewart Welding; Mitch Funk from Roosevelt, Utah, was the winner of the set of four KM2 tires donated by DUCO; and Eric Lozier from Clifton was the winner of the $500 gift certificate to Barney Brothers Off Road, donated by Silver Sage RV Park.
There were 43 drivers who signed up for the trail ride and the competition.
“The rock crawlers would like to thank everyone for attending the event and a thanks again to all of the companies and individuals who sponsored the event,” said club member Tami Williams. “At one time Saturday, I’m guessing there were 200 people out there. Everybody had a ball.”
