RANGELY | The Rangely Junior High School had their last meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 4. They ran the Pantherfest at the Confluence Park in Delta, Colorado. The team was missing a few runners but had gained a new runner for the meet.Macy Morgan, eighth grader, started the races off once again as the lone runner for the Rangely team. “Macy has been a real trooper, being the only girl and putting up with all the boys. I look forward to having her on the girls’ team next year,” said head coach Beth Scoggins. Morgan had a great race for a distance of 3K (1.8 miles) with a time of 17:36.
For the boys, seventh grader Colin Zadra was the first one across the line. He had a great meet, with a new personal best of 14:54. Joseph Doza, sixth grade, came in with a 15:02, also a new personal best. Justin Allred, eighth grader, ran his last junior high meet with a time of 16:23.
“Justin has been a great captain, he is a hard worker and good role model for the sixth graders. We’ll miss him on the junior high team but look forward to having him on the high school team.” said coach Scoggins.
Sixth grader Matthew Morgan had the race of the season with a new personal best of 17:09. Gage Nielsen, sixth grade, decided to give cross country a try since he didn’t have a football game. He was able to finish right behind Matthew with a time of 17:17, pretty impressive since he went to only one practice with the team.
“It was a lot of fun having so many junior high school athletes out for cross country. Hopefully, the team will continue to grow and get better next year,” said Scoggins.
The Panthers will wait for the high school team to finish the season and then have their banquet in November.
