RBC | Susan Alvillar, founding board member was honored at Community Counts annual meeting held Nov. 20, 2019, at the Town of Parachute, as she retired after 12 years with the organization. Alvillar, along with a small group of operators in 2007, founded Community Counts and helped bring the existence of our Response Line (866-442-9034) to life to help residents resolve their issues with the energy/extractive industry in a more timely manner.

Community Counts has now become a broad-based community organization that includes multiple types of industry, local government, businesses, associations and citizens and operates in Garfield, Mesa and Rio Blanco counties. Alvillar was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation along with cake and flowers and many thanks for her service and best wishes on her retirement. Board President  Kirk Daehling said it best on Alvillar’s retirement, “It will be a challenge for the board to live up to the standards set by Susan but we will definitely try not to let her down.”

This year we also added a special event which included operators in our area who presented updates on their company’s work. Four operators, Terra Energy, Caerus Oil and Gas, Ursa Operating Company and Natural Soda gave reports on their company’s work

Board members for 2020 will be Kirk Daehling from Natural Soda, president; Chuck Hall, Mesa County resident, vice president; Monique Speakman, property manager for Cheryl and Company, secretary; John Doose, Ursa Operating Company, treasurer; along with Brian Gardner, Mesa County resident, director; Dave Morlan, Rio Blanco County Road and Bridge Director, Zach Jacobson, Summit Midstream and Kirby Wynn, Garfield County Oil and Gas liaison. Staff incudes Nita Smith, executive director and Tammie North, accountant.

Guests attending included dignitaries from Garfield County: Commissioner Mike Samson and Commissioner Tom Jankovsky; Rio Blanco County Commissioner Gary Moyer and Rio Blanco County Economic Development Director Makala Barton along with State Representative Perry Will and West Slope Oil and Gas Executive Director Eric Carlson. Many other friends of Alvillar’s and members of Community Counts also attended.

Community Counts next meeting will be Jan. 15, 2020, at the Town of Parachute from 3:30–5 p.m. in the small board room. Meetings are open to the public.  Please call the Response Line (866-442-9034) or Nita (303-916-4009) if you need help with an energy/extractive issue or if would like to be on one of our databases to receive travel alerts and information pertinent to your area please e-mail [email protected].
