The Meeker Herald — 100 years ago
n It was an election year and Thomas Kilduff was appointed an alternate delegate to the Democratic National Convention for Rio Blanco County.
n “Had a nice rain Monday. Lucius Shepard went to Rifle Tuesday.”
n Tetley’s Tea was available for purchase at A. Oldland’s and Co. for a whopping $0.70 per pound.
n “Light frost yesterday morning, and is doubtless the last we’ll see for the next three months.”
n Rube Ball, Dan Frost and Billy Greene returned from Marvine Sunday after completing the work of installing one of the finest small fish hatcheries in the state. As a result of Mr. Ball’s enterprise and public spirit, 500,000 “natives” will be turned into White River this fall.

The Meeker Herald — 50 years ago
n Mayor Frank Kennedy anticipated a crowd of more than 2,000 to attend the free June 28 barbecue downtown. Colorado Governor Steve McNichols was expected to attend.
n Meeker’s town council voted to install water meters to help prevent “leaks and abuse of irrigation” from the water supply.
n The Rio Theatre was showing “Last of the Bad Men” and “Affair in Havana” as a double feature in CinemaScope.
n The U.S. Post Office announced a forthcoming rate increase — to $0.04 for a regular stamp.

The Rangely Times — 35 years ago
n The more things change, the more they stay the same. In June 1973, an oil shale consultant said the three oil shale counties in western Colorado ìmay not be ready for the large increase in population that could accompany oil shale development.
n The Campus Theatre hosted showings of “The Train Robbers,” with John Wayne and Ann-Margret; Clint Eastwood in “Hang ‘Em High” and “Fiddler on the Roof.”
n A package of Nabisco Oreo cookies sold for $0.55 at Bestway and an 18 oz. jar of Tang breakfast drink cost $0.99.

The Rangely Times — 20 years ago
n Rio Blanco County was “seriously considering” changing to satellite as the source of the signal that distributed local channels to the area.
n Christopher Hejl of Rangely correctly answered the first book clue for kindergarten and first-grade in the library’s summer reading program.
n “Bad Dreams,” “Beetle-juice,” and “Biloxi Blues” topped the most popular movie list for the week.
