RANGELY I Rangely’s boys came up short against their county rivals, the Meeker Cowboys, on Friday. The Cowboys jumped out to a 17-4 lead, but the Panthers roared back with a 20-6 run in the second quarter and had a 24-23 lead at halftime. Meeker captured a one-point lead, 33-32, at the end of the third quarter and capitalized from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter making 12 of 14 free throws. Cole Rogers had 19 points for the Cowboys and Ryan Phelan pitched in 10. For the Panthers, Dylan LeBleu was the high-point man with 14 while Gabe Polley contributed 11 points. Meeker also won the JV boys contest.
On Saturday, the Panthers looked slow of foot at Vail Mountain, but held a 42-30 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Gore Rangers outscored the Panthers 23-4 in the fourth quarter to capture a 53-46 league win. Dylan LeBleu was the high-point man for the Panthers with 10 points.
Rangely hosts the North Park Wildcats on Friday, Feb. 14, and travels to Paonia on Saturday, Feb. 15. The Panthers are now 5-11 overall with a 4-5 league record.
