Olga Jannes

Olga Jannes

Dec. 29, 1934 ~ April 17, 2020

Longtime Meeker resident, Olga Jannes, 85 died peacefully surrounded by her husband, Phil Jannes of 60 years and daughter Heidi, Thursday, April 17, 2020, at Pioneers Medical Center in Meeker.

Olga was born to Isadore and Johanna (Jennie Vassek) Pike on Dec. 29, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois. Olga grew up in Chicago, with her three sisters and graduated from Proviso High School, Class of 1953. Olga’s love of Colorado grew from her many visits to Colorado as a child and teen to visit the family’s ranch in Craig, Colorado.

Olga met the love of her life, Phillp Jannes at a friend’s New Year’s party in Chicago. They became inseparable and were married on May 7, 1960, in Forest Park, Illinois. They had six children: Heidi, Phillip Jr., Anna, Scott, Jennifer and Alexandria. Olga was a wife, mother, Boy Scout Leader and volunteer for her children’s activities.

In 1984, after residing in Chicago for 50 years, Olga and Phil moved their two younger children to Meeker, Colorado, where they would enjoy sheep ranching and the Colorado mountains for the next 36 years. Olga loved living on the ranch and tending her sheep. She enjoyed being a member and volunteering with the Colorado Wool Growers Association.

In her spare time, Olga loved gardening, arranging flowers, reading and spinning her wool. She loved entering food items in the area fair. She hated to miss a garage sale or an auction. She enjoyed having her friends over for coffee and cake. Above all, Olga was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her family will always remember her love, strength, sense of adventure and wonderful sense of humor.

Olga is survived by her husband of 60 years, Phillip Jannes of Meeker: her six children:

Heidi Jannes of Meeker, Phillip (Anita) Jannes Jr. of Illinois, Anna (Kevin) Brown of Florida, Scott Jannes of Florida, Jennifer (Rex) Copeland of Florida and Alexandria (Chris) Ruane of Canada; and three sisters Marge Swaner of Michigan, Joan Maahs of Arkansas and Rosemarie Pike of Tennessee. Olga is further survived by her 13 grandchildren.

Olga was preceded in death by her parents, Isadore and Jennie Pike.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Olga’s memory to the Pioneers Hospital Home Health; 575 3rd St. Meeker, Colorado 81641. They cannot thank their home nurses enough for their gentle care, love and friendship. They would have been lost without all the support.
