Businesses that were forced to shut down completely due to the state’s public health orders for COVID-19 are eligible to apply for a Business Recovery Grant from the Town of Meeker.
Businesses must have been forced to completely close their main operation due to the Stay At Home Order issued by the state on March 17, be located within the town limits and be a “brick and mortar” business. Application deadline is May 29. For more information call Town Hall at 970-878-5344.
During the regular meeting Tuesday, the board approved a bid for the Market St. crosswalk project to Sturgeon Electric. The project is expected to start after July 4. The project will create a pedestrian crosswalk at Fifth and Market streets, allowing for safer access from downtown across Highway 13 to access City Park and the White River.
Trustee Scott Nielsen was appointed to a one-year term on the Meeker Housing Authority board.
Police Chief Edward Thompson was appointed to the 911 board.
The Board of Trustees approved the annual town business grants to 10 local businesses for site improvements and four local businesses for economic development in amounts ranging from $1,200 to $5,000.
Town Administrator Lisa Cook said the governor’s newest order will funnel some of the funds from the federal CARES act to municipalities through the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), “Which is hopefully a good thing for us.”
The long-awaited Water Street water line replacement project is expected to start next Tuesday.
Mayor Kent Borchard mentioned a donation from XTO Energy of 1,500 gallons of hand sanitizer that is intended to be shared between the county departments, the towns, and local businesses.
“That was a really generous donation,” Borchard said.
