June is National PTSD Awareness month and in celebration Western Colorado Health Care System would like to get the word out about basic symptoms, signs and when to seek care, treatment, and PTSD treatments during COVID.
PTSD counseling and support is becoming one of the largest needs among veterans.
“We know that these are very stressful times for various reasons. We want our veterans to know that we are here for you, accessible during COVID, and if you are struggling treatments are available now,” said Dr. Kara Harmon, PTSD Clinical Team Program Manager.
Basic symptoms include reliving the event, avoiding situations that are reminders of the event, negative changes in beliefs or feelings, and feeling keyed up and on edge.
VAs around the country are utilizing treatments that show positive progress. Such as Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
