Nov. 2, 1936 ~ July 3, 2020
Robert (Bob) Eugene Dunker of Rangely, Colorado, was called home July 3, 2020. He leaves behind his loving wife Virginia (Ginny is what he called her); children Melissa and Eddy Garcia of Bakersfield, California; Teresa and Randy Nelson of Aloha, Oregon; Mark and Tammy Dunker of Massadona, Colorado; Mathew Dunker and Malora Rini of Bakersfield, California; Daniel and Crystal Dunker of Frazier, California; brothers Carl Kunce of California; Richard Kunce of Oregon; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Bob was born in Iowa city, Iowa, to Dorothy and Homer Dunker on Nov. 2, 1936. He joined the United States Air Force and served his country from 1955-1958. He then went on to work for Douglas oil refinery where he met the love of his life Ginny and they married in 1959. They soon moved to Modoc County where he was a ranch hand and they started their family. They eventually moved to southern California where he worked for Dresser Atlas wireline service for 25 years. In 1999 they moved to Massadona, Colorado, to help run the Tavern. Bob was in his element there and always had a joke to tell or an old oil field story to share. Lastly, he and Virginia moved to Eagle Crest in Rangely, Colorado, where the stories and jokes never stopped. He has been described as “a man’s man” and there wasn’t much he couldn’t build or fix. He taught his children to fish and enjoyed many memorable camping trips with the family.
He is preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Kunce, father Homer Dunker, stepfather Merlin Kunce, brother Lenord Kunce and granddaughters Aris Dunker and Pike Dunker.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18 with a light luncheon following at the old Ace High 616 East Main St. in Rangely. Due to COVID please wear a mask.
