MEEKER | Pioneers Medical Center and Pioneers Healthcare Center sponsored the annual Scrub Shirt 5K Race to raise awareness for cancer screenings and raise monies for the local Cancer Screening Fund.
“We had great weather, and so many fun people came out to participate,” said Margie Joy, Executive Director of Pioneers Healthcare Foundation. “More than 70 people ran or walked the event on Saturday.”
Overall, Darren Nisly, 32, took first place, Rebekah Grant, 30, took second place, and Tucker Chinn, 12, placed third. Everyone ran a great race.
“The Meeker Recreation Center helped with the race timing system. Their involvement was extremely helpful and certainly streamlined the start and finish,” Joy added.
The event raised almost $1,200 to support the Pioneers Healthcare Foundation Cancer Screening Fund. This fund helps Meeker residents who do not have insurance to receive their mammograms. “So far, in 2020, six residents have received this service. Many clients using this service have not had a mammogram in several years. Early detection is the best strategy. Pioneers Healthcare Foundation is proud to be able to provide this service,” Joy said. “Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2020 Scrub Shirt 5K Event. We appreciate the involvement and support of the Cancer Screening Fund.”
