MEEKER | Meeker High School art instructor Ben Quinn presented a slideshow of the art contest submissions that earned Meeker students three state-level Gold Key awards on one national silver medal at Monday’s meeting of the Meeker Board of Education. He also said the school’s art students were invited to submit ornament designs for the annual Christmas tree in Washington, D.C. Meeker was the only Colorado school invited to participate. Twelve designs were submitted.
Meeker Elementary School students will have the opportunity to learn about the intricacies of 3D printing, thanks to a grant. The printer is currently housed in Principal Kathy Collins’ office, but students have had a chance to see the printer at work.
Michelle Weston will once again serve as the chair of the District Accountability Committee. The board thanked Weston for her service.
Superintendent Chris Selle said student count numbers are down “quite a bit,” which was expected. The lower numbers will have an impact on funding, which has already taken a hit due to the state budget.
“Over $1 billion from the state budget will be cut for 2021-22,” Selle said. “I don’t think it’s a rosy picture as long as our [attendance] counts stay low. We’ll have some tough decisions to make in the spring if those students don’t come back who are homeschooling or distance learning.”
