Not much good to say about 2020, and that includes the amount of precipitation we’ve received. The Yampa and White basin is sitting at just 64% of normal snow water equivalent (SWE) for this time of year on the USDA NRCS SNOTEL map as of Dec. 22.
In case you’ve ever wondered, SNOTEL stands for snow telemetry. Telemetry is the in situ collection of measurements or other data at remote points and their automatic transmission to receiving equipment (telecommunication) for monitoring. The word is derived from the Greek roots tele, “remote”, and metron, “measure”.
