AGNC to host sixth annual economic development summit Sept. 9 in Rifle

RBC I Associated Governments of Northwestern Colorado (AGNC) will host its sixth annual Economic Development Summit on Sept. 9, 2021, in Rifle, Colorado at the Ute Theater, 132 E Fourth St. Elected officials, economic development professionals, educators and business owners will be among those in attendance. 

Attendees will learn about current regional economic conditions and trends from Dr. Nathan Perry of Colorado Mesa University. Representatives of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade (OEDIT) will provide information regarding programs made available through the legislature to assist businesses in a variety of ways. Jerilynn Francis and Margie Joy will provide insights to programs available through the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority to assist with housing and business issues as we recover from the pandemic. Trent Thompson with the Economic Development Administration (EDA) will share the opportunities available through various programs funded through the American Recovery Plan Act (ARPA), and there will be a panel discussion regarding work being done regarding the use of coal for alternative products. Charles Barr will provide a presentation on the high-tech agriculture project he is establishing in Garfield County, and Wendell Pryor from Chaffee County will be the lunchtime keynote speaker discussing successes he has been involved with in Chaffee County. 

A great deal of excellent information and the potential for connecting with agencies and individuals will be available. The event will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m., presentations begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m. Registration is $75 and includes lunch. AGNC is the Enterprise Zone Administrator for the NW Colorado Enterprise Zone as well as the designated Economic Development District for the NW Colorado region. 

AGNC Chairman Mike Samson stated, “The AGNC ED Summit has been well received over the previous five years and we hope it will continue to grow and expand. Local leaders, educators and businesses can find ideas and opportunities that can make a difference in their communities by attending this event. The content is informative and well worth attending.” 

Presenting sponsors for the event are Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association and the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority. Registration is open to anyone interested in economic development and diversification for the region.
